The Great Outdoors September Gay-themed Film and Discussion Night: "Pride"
Set in mid-1980s Great Britain and based on real events, in "Pride" both coal miners and gays/lesbians find themselves threatened by the Thatcher government. Realizing the gay community and coal miners share a common enemy, young gay activist Mark Ashton spurs on a movement among gays and lesbians to raise money to support striking coal miners. At first the gays and lesbians are none too eager to help a group of men whom they see as gay bashers, nor are the miners and their families ready to accept their assistance with open arms and hearts. But as the gays' and lesbians' efforts persist......well, we don't want to give away the whole plot, now do we? :-)
