Day hike in Malibu – Sandstone Peak via Mishe Mokwa Trail
Saturday, March 16; 8:45am
Distance: 6 miles. Loop
Elevation Gain: 1,368 feet
Overall Difficulty Rating: Moderate
Please join us in ascending to the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountain range. Take in the gorgeous panoramic views from both the peak, and Inspiration Point. If you’ve done this hike before, you know what a gem it is. There are two routes to the top – we are taking the longer and more scenic of the two. The trail is fairly easy but the last part up to the peak (optional) is a bit of a easy bouldering scramble, but should be doable by almost anyone.
The Woolsey Fire burned through here in December, so some of the trees that provided shade are now gone, but the vegetation is growing back. We will see how the area was affected.
Pack water and snacks. Dogs welcome, but must be kept on a leash.
Directions to the trail head parking lot: From Hwy 1 PCH, go up Yerba Buena Rd, and a little past Circle X Ranch is the Sandstone Peak trailhead parking lot on the left. From Thousand Oaks take Hwy 23 South, then Left of Mulholland Hwy. Right onto Etz Meloy, then a Right on Yerba Buena Rd. Turn right into the Sandstone Peak parking lot.
Meet at 8:45am and we will step onto the trail at 9:00am sharp.
Optional lunch at Neptune’s Net after the hike.
Later that evening, please join Great Outdoors for a potluck at Chris’ and Gary’s home in Oxnard (link).
Please respond if you wish to participate.
See you Saturday, March 16 for Sandstone Peak!
